What is SKY?
Skamania Kids & Youth (SKY) is nonprofit organization (founded 2024) dedicated to the well-being of youth in Skamania County.
SKY’s Teen Center is a youth-led, community-supported project.
Located in the heart of downtown Stevenson - within walking distance of the local high school - SKY’s Teen Center provides local teens with a safe and welcoming place to go.
The need for teen space and activities in Skamania County has been long and widely recognized by youth and the adults who care about them. This need is documented in the county’s 2024 Community Health Assessment. Present day Stevenson High School students, and alumni dating back to the 1970’s, have dreamed of creating a local Teen Center.
Members of SKY’s Youth Advisory Council turned that dream into a reality. This youth leadership team worked for over a year to lay groundwork - from fundraising to painting, from public speaking to debating policy. The Youth Advisory Council makes key project decisions, provides essential guidance and feedback, and serve as ambassadors to peers. Members gain valuable organizing experience and develop a foundation for becoming agents of change for healthier communities - locally and beyond.
SKY’s long term vision includes a space for youth of all ages.
SKY values community engagement! We utilize existing community skills, resources, and partnerships as the basis of programming, and prioritize intergenerational exchange.
SKY provides the vision and the physical hub; the community activates it!
Who’s in the space?
SKY shares our building with Community Art Studio of Skamania County (CASS), a nonprofit offering creative activities as inclusive, non-judgmental opportunities for meaningful creative social interaction. Thanks to CASS, creative opportunities and art supplies are abundantly built into the Teen Center. It’s important to note that SKY and CASS are two distinct nonprofit organizations who optimize benefit by sharing this centrally located space at alternate times.
Curious how it works?
CASS utilizes the space during school hours - but it's exclusively for teens during after-school drop-in hours. SKY offers teen programming on Saturdays; CASS offers all-ages programming on Sundays. Teens on the Youth Advisory Council have primary decision making power over how the space is used!
CASS won the 2025 Nonprofit of the Year Award - check out their amazing programming!
